Microsoft - Show hidden/system/protected operating system files in File Explorer
Problem
You need to reveal hidden/system/protected operating system files in File Explorer.
Applies to
- Windows 10/11
Resolution
Please make the following changes to view all system files.
Windows 10
- Open any Explorer window and click on the “View” ribbon.
- Then choose “options” and then “change folder and search options”.
- Then click the “View” tab in the dialogue.
- Make the following changes:
On Hidden files and folders select Show hidden files folders and drives on – On
Uncheck the optoin Hide extensions for known file types.
Uncheck the option Hide protected operating system files.
- Then click “OK” button to confirm.
Windows 11
- In File Explorer click the three dot menu in the toolbar then click Options.
- In the Options dialouguie click the View tab.
- Then make the following changes:
On Hidden files and folders select Show hidden files folders and drives on – On
Uncheck the optoin Hide extensions for known file types.
Uncheck the option Hide protected operating system files.
- Then click “OK” button to confirm the changes.
