Set Windows Explorer to show system file extensions
Problem
By default Windows will not display file extensions. You can change this default to reveal these which may help with troubleshooting is just for general preference.
Resolution
Windows 10
- Open Windows Explorer by clicking Start > Documents or press Windowskey+E on the keyboard.
- Then click View > File name extensions (make sure this item is checked).
- This setting should be global for all folders now.
Windows 11
- Open Windows Explorer by clicking Start > Documents or press Windowskey+E on the keyboard.
- Then click the ellipsis (there dots) menu button and click Options button.
- Then click View tab and then click to uncheck the options “hide extensions for known file types” on.
- Then click Apply to folders button near the top and click OK button.
