Fix blank start menu searches
Problem
When you attempt to open the start menu there is nothing shown, it appears totally blank.
Resolution
- Open regedit and navigate to the following key:.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search - Right click the "search" key and click New > 32bit DWORFD value and call it "BingSearchEnabled".
- Double click "BingSearchEnabled" and set value to "0".
- Then open by double clicking "CortanaConsent" and set its value to "0".
- Close regedit and restart.
- When logged back in open Task Manager using control+shift+escape hotkey.
- Locate the "Cortana" task, right click and choose "End Task".
- Press Windows+R and run "services.msc".
- Look for "Windows search" entry and restart it if it is not running.
