Focus - Translate and view BRF documents for scratchpad feature

A Focus user wishes to translate a Microsoft Word or plain text file into BRF format for us in the Focus scratrchpad feature.

The Focus V Braille display scratchpad mode allows users to load in BRF format files to view on the Braille display with the Focus in scratchpad mode. If you have personal documents you would like to read in Grade 2 Braille you must translate the document before storing on a micro SD card in the Focus. The America Printing House website hosts a download of the Text2Braille app which allows conversoin of Word or plain text file to Grade 2 English Braille. For further details please visit:

Download and install Text2Braille
- With a browser open the direct download link shown after the colon symbol: https://tech.aph.org/lt_setup.exe
- Once downloaded open the location the file is stored and press ENTER on the executable LT_Setup.exe and follow the on screen instructions to install. The application is available without restarting Windows.
Using Text2Braille
Please use the steps below to convert a text file to Grade 2 Braille file.
- In File Explorer highlight the document you wish to translate.
- Then press SHIFT+F10 or Windows Menu key.
- Then use UP/DOWN ARROW keys to locate the option Show More Options, then press ENTER.
- Then use UP/DOWN ARROW keys to find the option Send To, then press ENTER.
- In the sub menu use UP/DOWN ARROW keys to select Braille, then press ENTER.
The document will be processed and translated copy of the document of the same name with a BRL file extension will be placed in the same location as the source document. You are now ready to move this document onto the device for reading.
Note
The steps above for using the utility can be made somewhat quicker by forcing Windows to display all context menu options, thus allowing more direct access to the Send To context menu. Please see
Show full context menu by default for details.
With the show full context menus fix the instructions remove the additional step required to access Send To sub menu.

- In the sub menu use UP/DOWN ARROW keys to select Braille, or press B, then press ENTER.
