Microsoft – Show full context menu by default (Windows 11)
Problem
In Windows 11 Microsoft have simplified the context menu
when used within Windows Explorer that leads to loss of functionality of
confusion.

Resolution
For customers who would like this to be the default
setting in Windows a registry change is required to make the full context menu
a default.
Using the mouse
- Open
Terminal by right clicking Start button and choose Terminal (Admin). You may be asked to authenticate with UAC prompt.
- Then copy the following text into the Windows clipboard:
reg.exe add
"HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}\InprocServer32"
/f /ve
- Then right click inside the Terminal window to paste text at the prompt, then press ENTER. The system will respond by indicating the command was successful.
- Close Terminal window and then restart Windows, this should complete the change.
Using the keyboard
- Press WINDOWSkey+X to open the special start menu.
- Then use UP/DOWN arrow keys to find Terminal (Admin), then press
ENTER.
- A new window opens up with Terminal prompt.
- Highlight and copy the text below into the terminal window command prompt:
reg.exe add "HKCU\Software\Classes\CLSID\{86ca1aa0-34aa-4e8b-a509-50c905bae2a2}\InprocServer32"
/f /ve
- Then at the terminal prompt press control+V to paste in the
Terminal command, and press ENTER. The system will respond by indicating the
command was successful.
- Close Terminal window and then restart Windows, this should complete
the change.
