Focus - troubleshooting USB connection issues

Focus - troubleshooting USB connection issues

Problem

Focus Braille display is not producing Braille output when connected with JAWS over USB. For example JAWS may display an error "Could not load Braille driver".

Resolution

  • Check if JAWS is able to communicate with the Focus when using USB (steps below).
  • If JAWS is unable to detect the display in normal operation to provide Braille output then the most likely resolution is to replace USB cable
  1. Open the JAWS using the most appropriate method below:
  2. Then either open the JAWS window using JAWSKey+J if using desktop keyboard layout or CONTROL+SHIFT+CAPS+J for laptop layout.
  3. Then as appropriate do either of the following:
  • If you hear JAWS window press ALT+O for Options, down arrow to Braille and press ENTER.
  • If you bear JAWS announce context menu press down arrow to Options and press ENTER, then down arrow to Braille and press ENTER again.
  1. In the Braille dialogue TAB to Braille Load Error and press SPACEBAR to check it.
  2. Then press TAB to OK button and press ENTER.
