FS Auth - Moving Sentinel Server to new hardware (Network License)
Problem
An existing Freedom Scientific Sentinel License Server has reached the end of its life and needs replace with new hardware.
Applies to
- JAWS (Network License)
- ZoomText (Network License)
- Fusion (Network License)
Resolution
Please see below points when transferring a network
license to a new server:.
Prepare for license transfer
- Locate the product serial number for the network license.
- Contact Sight and Sound Technical Support by email (support@sightandsound.co.uk or call 01604 798 000) about your intention to move the license to new hardware. The license can then be made ready for activation on new hardware by the time it is ready to commission.
Retire existing Sentinel Server
Choose a time when the least number of users may be affected by decommissioning the old server hardware. Please see below how to safely to this.
- Open SERVICES.MSC on the server.
- Locate the service Sentinel RMS License Manager and chose to stop the service. This will disable the license being served in preparation for the new server being commissioned.
Authorising new Sentinel server
Confirm with Sight and Sound Technical Support if an activation is available for the license serial number, if it requires a reset it will be necessary to wait until it is reset.
- Download Sentinel Software and install onto the new hardware.
- Authorise the new network license.
- From here it is advisable to check if any of the client workstations are able to pick up the license, in some cases you may need to deploy LSFORCEHOST to allow them to find the new server.
- Once server you have verified server authorisation and client workstation access to the Network License has been verified working the old Sentinel Server hardware can be permanently decommissioned.
