JAWS – All files read with checkboxes next to them
Problem
When using JAWS with Windows File Explorer or focused on the desktop, files are spoken with checkboxes after them.

Resolution
This problem is actually a Windows settings problem. Use the steps below to change the setting if you do not wish to have checkboxes shown next to every file object in Windows.
- Press WINDOWS+E to open File Explorer.
- Then press ALT key for the ribbon bar.
- Then press RIGHT ARROW until you reach View TAB and press ENTER.
- Then press CONTROL+RIGHT ARROW until you reach Item Check boxes, then press SPACEBAR to disable it.
- Then press ALFT+F to close the window, the change should be immediate.
