JAWS – Checkbox announced next to all file or desktop items

Problem

When navigating in Windows JAWS announces "Checkbox" against every file or desktop icon encountered.


Resolution

Please use the steps below to change the Explorer display settings to remove the checkbox.

  1. Open Windows Explorer and press Alt follow by V and then Y.
  2. Press ENTER on folder options.
  3. Then press conrol+tab to move to the View tab.
  4. Then press TAB until you get into the list of options.
  5. Press letter U to get to "Use checkboxes to select items" and press spacebar to disable this.
  6. Then press TAB to reach OK and press ENTER on it.
