JAWS – Change/disable placement of Braille status cells

Problem

A JAWS user with a connected Braille display wishes to change position or disable the status cells that show at the beginning or end of the Braille line.

Resolution

When JAWS is in Braille structure mode, the default is to place statrus cells that show position on the left side of the Braille line.  For some users this may not be convenient and can be changed or disabled completely.

  1. Press JAWSKey+F2 then select Settings Centre.
  2. Then press CONTROL+SHIFT+D to open the default configuration.
  3. Then type the text Placement in the search box, then press down arrow to the option Placement of Status cells.  The available options for status cells position are shown below:

    Left
    Right
    None

  4. Press SPACEBAR repeatedly until you toggled to the desired setting.
  5. Press TAB to reach the Apply button, then press SPACEBAR.
  6. Then press ENTER to close the Settings Centre window.
