JAWS - Dialog isn't in focus using Chrome browser

Problem

When using JAWS with Chrome after downloading an item JAWS speaks message “dialog not in focus” but ALT+SHIFT+A keystroke does not work.

Detail

After downloading an item with Chrome browser JAWS is unable to focus the download dialogue ALT+SHIFT+A fails to properly focus the window so it is not possible to access the download.

Resolution

  1. This problem has been observed recently with Chrome (possibly as a result of Chrome update).  Freedom Scientific have informed us (27/02/2024) that the failure of the ALT+SHIFT+A keystroke is under investigation for a solution.
  2. For the time being you can workaround the problem by pressing Control+J to bring the main download list into focus and use that to access downloaded files.

Note

It is also usual practice to send files into the main Downloads folder on a Windows system.  This folder can normally easily be reached under the user profile with File Explorer.
