JAWS – Enable or disable spelling error notification in Microsoft Word

Problem

A JAWS user would like to set their screen reader to enable or disable spelling error notification whilst navigating a document using the ARROW KEYS.

Resolution

  1. With Microsoft Word window in focus press JAWSKey+F2 and select Settings Centre, then press ENTER.
  2. In Settings Centre type the word 'spell' into the search edit box and press down arrow to reach the option Detect Spelling Error While Navigating.
  3. Then press SPACEBAR to toggle the option to the desired notification level shown below that is provided when  the misspelling is encountered:

    Off - no notification sounded
    Say Misspelled - Misspelled announced
    Play sound - Sound played 

  4. Then press TAB to reach the Apply button and press SPACEBAR on it.
  5. Then press ENTER to dismiss Settings Centre to return back to Microsoft Word.
