Problem
A JAWS user would like to understand the Message Centre feature.
Resolution
Freedom Scientific created the Message Centre as a way for them to communicate information about updatres, power tips and feature info. The user is notified when these come into JAWS in speech. Users can then choose to open the Message Centre to retreive the information via the Message Centre dialogue window.
Accessing the Message Centre
There are two ways to access Message Centre:
- Opwn rhw the JAWS window and navigate to Help > Message Centre then press ENTER.
- JAWSKey+SPACEBAR, followed by SHIFT+M
Message Centre dialogue
The Message Centre dialogue allows you to manage, and view any recent items contained in the Message Centre:
- Use UP/DOWN ARROW keys to browse through the message list.
- Press ENTER to view a message contents using arrow keys.
- Close an open message by pressing TAB to Close button then press SPACEBAR or ENTER to return to the message list.
- Whilst in the message list press TAB to reach Delete button for the currently highlighted message.
- Use TAB to navigate to search and enter text to filter the message list.
- Use TAB key or press ALT+S to open the Settings button where you can check or uncheck categories ot message you wish to receive.
