JAWS – Outlook contact match drop down no longer reads
Problem
When entering the first few letters of a contact in the
user’s address book JAWS no longer reads the contact match drop down list.
Applies to
- JAWS and Outlook classic
Resolution
This feature has in the past been periodically been
broken by Microsoft and then fixed again Freedom Scientific update mainly as
the result of changes to the control that is used to display the contact
matches. Please observe the general
steps here and where specific version updates may fix the problem.
General troubleshooting procedure
Check if this is an instance where corrupt JAWS settings may have broken the contact drop down reading. Use the /default mode to test if it will work on the defaults.
- If default settings fails to resolve the problem
try checking that the user can install the latest JAWS release. If the license is insufficient to do this advise
the customer an upgrade may fix the problem (you can test JAWS in demo mode
with Outlook to see if this will fix it) then point customer in the direction
of upgrade.
- If customer is on the latest JAWS already you can
try rolling back to the previous update if it seems likely the breakage was
related to the most recent update.
JAWS 2021 or below
Where possible get the customer’s JAWS up to 2023.2311.34 or later to
fix the problem with Microsoft Office Pro Plus 16.0.16731.20504.
