JAWS – Problems using JAWS sound splitter function
Problem
A JAWS user has difficulties activating or setting the sound splitter feature.

Resolution
Please run through all the suggestions to resolve the problem.
Update drivers for the following where possible:
- Sound card drivers
- BIOS
- Firmware
- Press WINDOWS+R for the Run command.
- Then enter the text below, then press ENTER:
mmsys.cpl sounds
- In the new window use UP/DOWN ARROW keys locate the soundcard or headset to adjust then press SPACEBAR to open it properties.
- Press CONTROL+TAB to navigate to each page of the dialogue to locate and uncheck the items listed below:
- Navigate to Enhancements tab, then press TAB to reach the item ‘Disable All enhancements’ then press SPACEBAR to check this item.
- Navigate to Advanced tab, then locate the option ‘Allow application to take exclusive control of this device’ then press SPACEBAR to uncheck it.
- Navigate to Advanced tab then uncheck the item ‘Give exclusive mode application priority’
- Then navigate to Advanced tab, then uncheck the item ‘Enable Audio Enhancements’
- Then navigate to Spatial audio tab, then uncheck Enable Audio Enhancements.
- Ten navigate to Communications tab, then adjust the setting ‘When Windows detects communications activity’ to Do Nothing using the arrow keys.
- When done TAB to OK then press SPACEBAR, then press ENTER
