JAWS – Quit applications from JAWS task list dialogue

Problem

A JAWS user has a large number of running applications and associated documnet windows an wishes to find a more efficient way to close them all.

Applies to

  1. JAWS/Fusion

Resolution

Customers may be aware of the JAWS Task List keystroke JAWSKey+F10 for listing open Windows.  From JAWS 2024.2403.3 and later users can now also quite the highlighted application directly without having to press ENTYER to bring it into focus to press ALT+F4 on first.

Alert

Caution!
Although this is a very useful and powerful convenience feature, users should be alert that there is an inherent risk closing an application, and should take care to respond appropriately to any prompts to save data before quitting the application.

Steps

  1. Press JAWSKey+F10 to open the JAWS Tasks window list.
  2. Use arrow keys to select the window that is to be closed.
  3. Then press DELETE on the keyboard, JAWS then switches to the application which will then prompt to the user to confirm exit or save any unsaved data before quitting.
  4. After responding to the close confirmation JAWS will re-focus back onto the task list again in case there are other windows to be closed.
  5. Press ESCAPE when ready to dismiss JAWS task list and return to an application or Windows operating system.
