JAWS - Switch keyboard layout desktop or laptop

Problem

A customer wishes to switch JAWS keyboard layout because their machine does not have a number or they wish to free up the number pad for other tasks.

Resolution

The user may choose between laptop and desktop keyboard layouts according to preference.   The goal of these settings are to private a convenient way to access the JAWS shift key used on different types of keyboard layout.  Not all laptops have a mueric pad so for laptop keyboard layout the JAWS shift keys is transferred from number pad INSERT key to the CAPSLOCK key.  
  1. Press ALT+TAB or JAWSKey+J to reach JAWS window.
  2. Press ALT+O to open Options menu.
  3. Then choose Basics by pressing ENTER.
  4. Than tab to "keyboard layout" drop down and press down arrow to select "laptop".
  5. TAB to OK button and press ENTER.

Tip
When JAWS is run from system tray use UP/DOWN ARROW keys to select Options, then press ENTER, then press ENTER again to open the Basic settings dialogue.

Note
Laptop layout may be used regardless of whether you are using a laptop or desktop keyboard.  However, as not all laptops feature a numeric pad it is often best to use laptop layout so that CAPSLOCK can be used as the JAWS key rather than insert.  Some users may prefer the laptop layout to free up use of the numeric pad even when using a desktop keyboard.
