JAWS - Select laptop keyboard layout without INSERT key

Problerm

A JAWS user needs to select Laptop keyboard layout because the computer keyboard they are using does not show a numbmer pad INSERT key as used by JAWS normally.

  1. JAWS/Fusion

Resolution

Please use the instructions below to navigate into the JAWS part of Fusion without using the INSERT key.

  1. Press Windows+D to go to Desktop.
  2. Press TAB until you reach the option Show Hidden Icons then press SPACEBAR.
  3. Then press RIGHT ARROW to locate JAWS, if you do not find it press down arrow and press LEFT ARROW to go back the other way to find it.
  4. When you have found JAWS icon press SHIFT+F10 to open the menu.
  5. Then press ENTER on Optoins, then ENTER again on Basics.
  6. Press TAB to reach Keyboard layout.
  7. Press UP/DOWN ARROW to select Laptop/
  8. Then press TAB to reach OK button and press SPACEBAR, if you are asked to authenticate navigate to Yes button or provide credentials.
  9. You will need to then restart Fusion for the change to become activate.
Now whenever you see the direction to press INSERT key for a JAWS command substitute with CAPSLOCK instead.
