JAWS - Virtual ribbon menu is blank

Problem

We have become aware of a problem introduced by the JAWS June 2023.2306 update that causes the loss of speech in the Microsoft Office virttual rubbon menu. Freedom Scientific are aware of the issue as of 13/07/2023.

Resolution

Please use either of the resolutions shown below.

Method 1 - Disable the virtual ribbon menu support

  1. Press JAWSKey+F2 and select Settings Centre then press ENTER.
  2. Press CONTRROL+SHIFT+D to open the default configuration file.
  3. Serarch Ribbon and press down arrow to locate Use Virtual ribbon support
  4. Then press spacebar to uncheck this item.
  5. Then press TAB to the Apply button and press Spacebar and then press ENTER to dismisss Settings Centre.

Method 2 - Roll back to JAWS 2023.2303 update

If a customer has access to an earlier JAWS or another screen reader then they can perform these steps to roll back to the earlier JAWS 2023 March build.
