Microsoft – Change sign-in password

Problem

A user would like to change their Windows sign-in password.

Applies to

  1. Windows 11

Resolution

You can use the steps below to change the sign in password in the Settings app.
  1. Click the Windows Start button and choose Settings.  If necessary type to search Settings and click to open.
  2. In Settings choose Accounts (in the left hand list).
  3. Then click Sign In Options > Password > Change.
  4. On the next screen when prompted enter your current password then click Next or press ENTER.
  5. When prompted enter your new password as requested and provide a password hint for the new password then click Next or press ENTER.
