Microsoft - Switch windows interface light/dark

Problem

A Windows user wishes to switch their Windows light/dark theme.

Resolution

Please use the set of instructions that matches your preferred navigation method.

Using the mouse

  1. Click Start button, then choose Settings app.
  2. In Settings click Personalisation > Colours.
  3. Then click the Choose Your Mode drop-down control
  4. Click to select the desired mode (light or dark). The switch will then be made.
  5. Then close Settings app.


Using the keyboard

  1. Press WINDOWS key to open search.
  2. Then search Settings and launch the settings app from the listed results.
  3. Press TAB to reach Personalisation then press SPACEBAR.
  4. Press TAB key to reach Choose Your Mode drop down control.
  5. Press ALT+DOWN ARROW to open the list.
  6. Press UP/DOWN ARROW to select the desired theme (light or dark), then press ENTER.
  7. Press ALT+F4 to close the Settings app.
