Microsoft – Displayed time is incorrect

Problem

A Windows user encounters a problem with the time being displayed is the incorrect time.


Applies to

  1. Microsoft Windows 11

Resolution

A variety of settings may impact the display of the current time in Windows.  Please use the steps below to correct this for UK users.  Choose which method mouse or keyboard as appropriate.

Using the mouse

  1. Right click Start button, then choose Settings.  Alternatively click Start button normally then search and open Settings.
  2. I the Settings app on the left click Time & Language.
  3. Click Date & Time settings on the right.
  4. Click the toggle button to on position for Set Time Automatically.
  5. Then scroll through the list, then click (UTC-00:00) Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon.  
  6. Click to enable the toggle for Adjust For Daylight Saving Automatically to have Windows adjust for time changes in spring and autumn automatically.
  7. [Optional] Click the toggle switch on for Show Time And Date In The System Tray.

Using the keyboard

  1. Press WINDOWS+X, then select Settings and press ENTER.  Alternatively press Windows key and search and select Settings.
  2. In Settings app press TAB once, then press DOWN ARROW to locate Time & Language, then press ENTER.
  3. Then press TAB until you reach the option Date & Time, then press SPACEBAR.
  4. Then press TAB until you reach Time Zone drop down list, then press ALT+DOWN ARROW to open the list.
  5. Then press UP/DOWN ARROW keys to select the time zone (UTC-00:00) Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon.  
  6. Then press TAB until you reach Set Time Automatically, then press SPACEBAR to enable this option.
  7. [Optional] Press TAB to reach the option Show Time And Date In The System Tray, then press SPACEBAR to enable this option.
