JAWS - Opening the JAWS window in laptop keyboard mode

Problem

A customer needs to access the JAWS window on a laptop keyboard and where JAWS keyboard setting is set to laptop mode but are unable to find the shortcut. 


Detail

When you switch to the JAWS laptop keyboard the JAWSKey moves to CAPSLOCK on the keyboard. However pressing CAPSLOCK+J wil not open the JAWS window because this is assigned to SayPriorCharacter and not JAWS window. If you are using the JAWS laptop keyboard layout this may present problems if you need to access the JAWs window.

Resolution

Use the steps below if you have the laptop keyboard arrangement enabled and do not use a number pad. 

  1. Hold down CAPS LOCK+CTRL+SHIFT keys with your left hand.
  2. Whilst holding the above keys press letter J to open the JAWS window.
