Setting a newer already upgraded JAWS to run after license has been updated

Problem

You may encounter a scenario where a later version of JAWS fixes a customer issue but you nered to have the existing JAWS remain active until the upgrade sale has completed. The steps below will then allow the newer JAWS to take it’s place with the updated license. Upon completion of trhe sale.

Steps

Step 1: Update activation of installed license

  1. Close the existing copy of JAWS if it is currently running by clicking on the JAWS tab then in the JAWS window click the close symbol in the window or JAWS JWASKey+F4 and press ENTER on OK button.
  2. Then open the new updated JAWS software.
  3. After a short while a message may be display about the current authorisation is for an earlier version of JAWS, click OK to respond to this message.
  4. Then when you are prompted to activate click Start Activation button.
  5. Then click Next > Activate using the internet > Next button > Next button > Finish button to complete the activation.

Step 2: Set new JAWS to start automatically

  1. Click the JAWS taskbar button or press JAWSKey+J to open the JAWS window.
  2. Then choose Options > Basics > Automatically start JAWS button.
  3. In the dialogue click the x checkbox to have JAWS startup at the login screen if you need support during Windows sign-in.
  4. Then click the drop down for x and set it to Always if you want JAWS to always start regardless of the logged in user.
  5. Then click OK and authenticate with Windows if the UAC prompt appears by clicking Yes button.
