Use QuickTime Player to record Facetime video instead of Photo Booth app

Problem

On some Macs Photo Booth may not record video output freom the Facetime camera.

Resolution

You can use QuickTime Player which can also records from the camera instead.

  1. Open Finder and go to applications.
  2. Then launch Quick Time Player app.
  3. Click File > New Movie Recording, a new window will pop up showing live feed from the camera.
  4. Move the mouse to near the bottom part of the window and click the drop down arrow to the right of the record button.
  5. Make sure that Facetime Camera and Macbook Air or Macbook Pro microphone are both ticked.
  6. When you are ready click the record button to begin recording straight away.
  7. When finished click the record button to cease recording.
  8. You can then save the recording to post where you need it to go.
