BraileSense 6 - File Manger app hotkeys and operation

A BrailleSense 6 user wishes to know useful hotkeys for using File Manager app.

Resolution

Below some basic information on File Manager application included with BrailleSense 6 notetakers.


Launch File Manager

  1. Press F1 to open programs menu.
    Press letter F to open File Manager or navigate to it in the list and press ENTER.


Idea
Tip
You can use the shortcut F1-F chord to open File Manager from anywhere.


Window Navigation

Press  F3 and Space-F3 for TAB and SHIFT+TAB operation between the two main windows within file manager (Address Window and Content List).


List navigation:

Press Space-1 = move up
Press Space-4 = move down
Space-1-2-3 = move to beginning
Space-4-5-6 = move to end



Notes
Note
File list and menu navigation behaviour differs between File List and Menu lists:
  1. In file lists when the highlight reaches the end the highlight stays in position.
  2. In a menu when reach the end the highlight wraps around

Space-5-6 = Jump to folder (only in file list)
Backspace = move back a folder level
Space-1-2-5-6 = jump back to drive list
space 1-2-6 or F1-F2 = move to previous 20 items
space 3-4-5 or F3-F4 = move to next 20 items
Spacebar = select item in file list
Press letter chord to jump to item beginning with same letter in the list


Selecting file and folders

Spacebar = select single file/folder item, press spacebar again to deselect the item.
To select more than one item use the following keys:
Enter-B to mark beginning of your selection.
Move cursor to end of selection
Enter-A = select all items, press space to deselect all items


Open/eject a drive

Enter = open any drive in a list to view contents
Backspace-ENTER-U = eject a currently connected drive


Open folders

ENTER = open currently highlighted folder item
Press F2 or ENTER-O = Open folder item, then select the folder to open.


Press F2 = open fie menu, then use normal navigation and ENTEER to execute functions.
