DBT activation error 0x80031080

Problem

Whilst attempting to activate a license for DBT you may recieve a message "Activation is required: Error 0x80031080" even though activation appears successful.

Resolution

Method 1: folder permissions

  • Make sure that the folder C:\Sheriff has permissions set to FULL for all users, groups and applications.

Method 2: Remove DBT from the system

  1. Remove all DBT versions using the Windows Control Panel.
  2. Then open the C:\Sheriff folder, and search for files called "features.ini" contained within (including in subfolders).
  3. Next reinstall DBT from either the CD or a copy of the download that was saved. It is essential that DBT is installed directly with our installer onto the machine on which will be running it and on which the user has all of her accounts.
  4. Then activate DBT again over the internet.
