JAWS- Use Microsoft Paint to scan an image

Problem

A JAWS or ZoomText user wishes to scan an image from a flatbed scanner.

Resolution

Paint is a built in Windows application one can use to deal with images you encounter, it can be used to save an image from a scanner.  JAWS users who use a Canon flatbed scanner or multi-function printer may prefer to use IJ Scan utility also.

  1. Press Windows key and then type Paint in the search box.
  2. In the list of results choose Paint and press ENTER.
  3. In Paint press ALT+F to open File menu then down arrow to Import from, in the sub menu choose the option Scanner or Camera then press ENTER.
  4. Press LEFT/RIGHT ARROW keys to select your scanning device then press ENTER.
  5. Then use UP/DOWN ARROW keys to select the type of scan and press TAB to reach the Scan button, then press SPACEBAR.
  6. A scan will then take place and open in Paint app.
  7. Press CONTROL+S to save the scanned image.  The save dialogue opens, use normal navigation to save the image to your desired located.
