JAWS - Running Canon IJScan utility to retain images

Problem

A JAWS who also has a Canon scanner wish to retain a scanned image.

Resolution

The JAWS scanning function does not allow the user to scan and retain an image.  Those users with a Canon flatbed may and multi-function printers may find IJScan utility that is supplied with their unit.  This sofware can be used to scan an image wehich can be saved by the user.  Alternatively one may use the instructions:  Microsoft Paint to scan an image instead.

  1. Press WINDOWS+R to open the Run command dialogue, then enter the text below and press ENTER:

    scanutility.exe

  2. Press TAB to rotate through the buttons to reach Photo button then press SPACEBAR.
  3. The attached scanning device should then start physically scanning the item.
  4. When the scan has finished the default behaviour should be to display the image in Windows Explorer.  From here you can rename or copy the file as desired.
