JAWS - Navigating Google reCAPTCHA

You are trying to gain access to a website that is protected by Google ReCAPTCHA which is preventing login.

Resolution

Google ReCAPTCHA is online system that attempts to distinguish between software and humans by providing a challenge only a human can pass but a robot software cannot pass.  These systems are used to protect website from attackers using robot software to compromise a website in some way.  JAWS users may find this difficult to navigate initially.  Please use the below steps when faced with the Google Recaptcha to successfully navigate it, answer the challenge and sign into a website.  In the below steps users can practice with the demo page Google created:

  1. In a browser navigate to the website login page or open the Google ReCAPTCHA demo page:  https://www.google.com/recaptcha/api2/demo
  2. Press TAB to reach the checkbox I Am Not A Robot, then press SPACEBAR.  If the system is not able to validate you it will post a new window to provide a visual challenge.
  3. Press TAB to navigate to the Audio Challenge, then press SPACEBAR.
  4. On the next page the Play button should gain focus, if not press TAB to reach it then press SPACEBAR to hear the challenge audio.
  5. After the audio challenge has been played press TAB to reach the entry box, then enter what you heard as the challenge answer,.
  6. Press TAB to Verify button, then press SPACEBAR, if you successfully answered the challenge you will be signed into the website.
