JAWS - Resolve problems with Eloquence speech synthesizer

Problem

When using JAWS with the Eloquence speech synthesizer you have problems with the audio such as sound level changing or pops/crackles in audio.

Resolution

Please try the steps below to resolve problems with Eloquence speech synthesizer.  

  1. Press JAWSKey+F2 then select Settings Centre.
  2. Then press CONTROL+SHIFT+D to load the default configuration.
  3. Then type the word Synthesizer then press down arrow to Allow Wave Files With Software Synthesizer.
  4. Then press F6 and then press SPACEBAR to check the Allow Wave Files With Software Synthesizer option.
  5. Then press TAB to navigate to Reset Frequency.  
  6. Then change the reset frequency to 1000.
  7. Press TAB to reach the Apply button then press SPACEBAR and press ENTER.

Next steps

  1. Use Windows Device Manager to update/reinstall the sound driver.
  2. idenify the audio device and locate a set of updated drivers to install.
