JAWS says phonetic of every letter after pausing during character navigation

Problem:

When reading text by character using left/right arrow you hear the phonetic of the character if you pause during navigation

Explanation
From JAWS 2022 a new default has been set to allow JAWS to read a character if you pause during character navigation.

Resolution:

Use the steps below to change this default so that JAWS does not automatically speak the character phonetically.

  1. Press JAWSKey+number row 6 to open the Settings Centre dialogue.
  2. Press CONTROL+SHIFT+D to open the JAWS default settings file.
  3. Then type the word “Character” without quotes and press down arrow until you reach the result “When pausing after character navigation speak character phonetically…”
  4. Then press Spacebar until you hear JAWS say “Never” to confirm that the feature is turned off.
  5. Then press TAB to reach Apply button and then press SPACEBAR.
  6. Then do the same for OK button as well to exit Settings Centre.
