JAWS – Set initial state of number lock

Problem

A JAWS user would like to set the initial state of the number key when JAWS starts.

Applies to

  1. JAWS

Resolution

Provided JAWS is set to start at login or starts from he Windows Desktop the numlock status will reflect the changes made in the steps below.

  1. Press JAWSKey+F2 and select Settings Centre.
  2. Then press CONTROL+SHIFT+D to open Default configuration.
  3. Then type to search the word “initial” without the quotes.
  4. Then press DOWN ARROW to the option:  Initial State Of Numlock Key.
  5. Then press SPACEABAR repeatedly to toggle the option to the desired setting:

    Turn off at startup
    Turn On at startup
    Do not modify

  6. Then press TAB to reach Apply button, then press SPACEABAR.
  7. Then press ENTER to close Settings Centre window.
