Microsoft – Changing number lock status when Windows starts

Problem

A customer prefers a specific number state when Windows starts.

Resolution

JAWS/Fusion customers have the option of setting this via the Startup Wizard from JAWS.
For non JAWS/Fusion users do the following

  1. Press WINDOWS+R and type the program name below, then press ENTER:
  2. Regedit.exe
  3. Navigate to the following registry key:
  4. In Regedit press F4 to focus the address bar and copy the key path below and paste it into the location bar:
    HKEY_USERS.Default\Control Panel\Keyboard
    Alternatively navigate by hand to the above location.
  5. On the right side right click InitialKeyboardIndicators and select Modify.
  6. Then change the value data to either of the below values then click OK to confirm the change.

0 = number lock off
2 = number lock on

  1. Then exit Regedit application.
