JAWS – Speech stops after selecting Check For Updates

Problem

When a JAWS 2025 user selects Check For Updates in the Help menu of the JAWS application the user hears no further prompts to conduct the update.

Resolution

  1. After select Check For Updaters JAWS should then fdllow with a message to  say the check is in progress and then post a dialogue offering the specific update it has found.  This latter dialogue is posted out of focus and does not speak.
  2. This problem has been identified by the developers (September 2025) and a fix is currently being worked on.  Below are a couple of workarounds that should help whilst this issue is current.

Workaround 1

  1. Press ALT+TAB key sequence to bring the window back into focus.

Workaround 2

  1. Press JAWSKey+F10 to open window list.
  2. Then use UP/DOWN ARROW keys to select the update dialogue window.
  3. Then press ENTER to select it.
