Microsoft – Disable fast startup
Problem
A customer has a problem with Windows and disabling fast
startup is considered to be a potential solution.
Applies to
- Windows 8.0/8.1
- Windows 10/11
Resolution
Using the mouse
- Click Start and search Control Panel and click this result.
- Then click the View By drop down and set it to Large Icons or Small icons.
- Then click Power Options > Choose What The Power Buttons Do.
- Then click the link Change Settings That Are Currently Unavailable.
- Then click to disable the checkbox Turn On Fast Startup (Recommended).
- Then click Save Changes button.
Using the keyboard
- Press Windows Key and search Control Panel and press ENTER on the result.
- Press TAB once, if JAWS says Category list box press
SPACEBAR and then use ARROW keys to select Large Icons or Small Icons and press
ENTER.
- Then press letter P until you reach Power Options and
press SPACEBAR on it.
- In Power Options window press F6 and press SPACEBAR on
Choose What The Power Buttons Do.
- Then press SPACEBAR on the link Change Settings That Are
Not Currently Available.
- Press TAB key until you reach the checkbox for Turn On
Fast Startup (Recommended), then press SPACEBAR to uncheck this item.
- Then press TAB to reach the Save Settings button and
press SPACEBAR on it, if prompted by User Account Control TAB to the Yes
button or press ALT+Y.
- Then close any open Control Panel related windows and
restart the system.
