Microsoft – Using Quick Assist app to get remote support

Problem

A visually impaired customer using JAWS/ZoomText/Fusion needs to request remote help with thier software.

Resolution

Visually imapired users who are running Windows 10/11 can receive remote help from anyone at the other end who also has access to a Windows 10/11 computer which has Quick Assist installed.  Quick Assist is not available for Windows 8.1 or prior.

 

Start Quick Assist

Please use any of the methods below to start the Quick Assist app.

  1. Press Windows key and type Quick Assist in the search, then press ENTER when Quick Assist is shown as the result.
  2. Press CONTROL+WINDOWS+Q as a chord on the keyboard.
  3. Press WINDOWS+R as a chord, and type quickassist.exe then press ENTER.

Connecting with remote help

  1. The assisting party will launch their copy of Quick Assist and choose Help Someon button and then provide the meeting code.
  2. For the user Quick Assist should focus on an edit box ready to accept the meeting code.  This code may consist of numbers and letters, however for letters it is not case sensitive.
  3. After entering the code press ENTER to proceed to the next step.  The assisting party will see that the user is connecting to Quick Assist.
  4. The user requesting help will then be prompted by a checkbox that reads 'I understand the security implications of a a remote connection' preess SPACEBAR to ackowledge this to continue wth remote support.
  5. Press TAB twice reach the Allow button then press ENTER.  If the Allow button does n ot appear to work it probably means that the checkbox has not been activated in step 4 above.
  6. The party providing help will then request access to control the machine, respond by pressing TAB until you reach the Allow button then press SPACEBAR on it to grant control.

    From here the connection is made between the two parties until either the user or the other part disconnects.
