Microsoft - Set Edge browser to ask to save files

Problem

A Microsoft Edge user would like to set up their browser to always ask to save downloads rather than just save to Downlods folder.folder.

Resolution

On the default setting Microsoft Edge will normally save any file on a download link to the Downloads folder, or use the steps below to have it ask what to do wth the download.

Using the mouse

  1. Open Microsoft Edge. 
  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) in the top-right corner. 
  3. Select Settings. 
  4. In the left-hand menu, click Downloads. 
  5. Toggle on the option “Ask me what to do with each download”.

Using the keyboard

  1. Press ALT+F to open the menu, then press UP/DOWN ARROW to Settings then press ENTER.
  2. Then press TAB key once to enter the category list, then press DOWN ARROW to Downloads then press ENTER.
  3. Press TAB key until you reach the toggle for the option:  Ask me what to do with each download”, then press SPACE to enable the option.
  4. Then press CONTROL+W to close the Settings tab.
