Microsoft – Shut down Windows (JAWS)
Problem
A JAWS user may find it hard to navigate to shut down their Windows.

Resolution
The precise way one shuts down Windows has changed
depending on the Windows version in use.
Windows 11
- Press Windows key to open Start menu.
- Press TAB 5 times or until you reach your login name.
- Press RIGHT ARROW until you reach Power button.
- Press SPACEBAR on power button, the use ARROW keys to
find Shut Down and press ENTER.
Windows 10
- Press Windows key to open Start menu and press TAB once.
- Press down arrow to reach Power button.
- Then press SPACEBAR on power.
- Press ARROW keys to select Shutdown, and press ENTER.
Universal method (Windows 10/11)
Another method below should work regardless if you have Windows 10/11.
- The following will work on any version of Windows.
- Press WINDOWS key to open Start menu, then press ESCAPE key.
- Then press ALT+F4, use arrows to select Shut Down, then press ENTER.
