A user who works with the keyboard needs to shut down Windows.

 


Resolution

The precise way one shuts down Windows has changed depending on the Windows version in use.

Detail

Over the different Windows version the precise layout of the Start menu and the means to shut down Windows has changed in the main Windows versions.  

Windows 11

  1. Press Windows key to open Start menu.
  2. Press TAB 5 times or until you reach your login name.
  3. Press RIGHT ARROW until you reach Power button.
  4. Press SPACEBAR on power button, the use ARROW keys to find Shut Down and press ENTER.

 
 

Windows 10

  1. Press Windows key to open Start menu and press TAB once.
  2. Press down arrow to reach Power button.
  3. Then press SPACEBAR on power.
  4. Press ARROW keys to select Shutdown, and press ENTER. 

 

Universal method to shut down method

For the Windows versions mentioned above and those that are not use the steps below.

  1. The following will work on any version of Windows.
  2. Press WINDOWS key to open Start menu, then press ESCAPE key.
  3. Then press ALT+F4, use arrows to select Shut Down, then press ENTER.
