SmartVision 3 - Blanked out screen

Problem

A SmartVision 3 user encounters a problem where normal display is replaced by text stating the screen has been hidden by Talkback, or the screen is completely blanked out.  The screen message below is shown for approximately three minutes before being blanked out:

Resolution

This problem is caused by Talkback privacy feature that obscures the normal display of text.  When enabled will show a message to the effect that the normal screen is being hidden before being blanked out after approximately three minutes,  If you wish to disable this feature you can do so using the steps below.

Disable screen privacy

  1. Press and hold the MENU button to access the Talkback menu.  If you do not get the Talkback menu press and hold MENU for longer.
  2. Then use scroll through the options using UP/DOWN ARROW keys to select Hide Screen, then press OK.
  3. This should then immediately return the display to  normal operation.

Add missing Show/Hide screen option

show/Hide screen is normally present in the Talkback menu reached by long pressing MENU key, if however it is missing use the steps below to restore it to the Talkback menu.

  1. Press MENU then select Settings > Talk back > Edit Menu, then press OK.
  2. Then press OK on the option Customize Talkback menu.
  3. Then press UP/DOWN ARROW keys to select Hide Or Show Screen, if it is not checked press OK to add it back to the menu.
  4. Press Home key to return to the Home Screen.
