Viewplus – Diagnosing SpotDot embosser problems using driver diagnostic information


Problem

A customer using a Viewplus SpotDot has a front panel error from the embosser and needs further information regarding the error condition.

Resolution

use either set of instructions to view any possible error codes displayed,  Some information what to do about ink errors if they appear.  Other error codes should be reported to Technical Support for analysis.

Windows 10

  1. Click Start button and search and open Control Panel.
  2. Then click View By drop down on the top right and select either Large Icons or Small Icons.
  3. Then open Devices and Printers.
  4. Then right click the embosser and select Printer Properties in the context menu.
  5. Then click Services tab, then check Enable Status Monitoring option.  If the services tab does not show the checkbox this indicates the driver may need updating first.
  6. Observe if there are any any non-0 status errors reported are shown.
 

Windows 11

  1. Click Start > Settings > Devices and Printers.
  2. Then click Manage, then Printer Properties.
  3. Click Service tab in the dialogue and then click to check Enable Status Monitoring option.  If the services tab does not show the checkbox this indicates the driver may need updating first.
  4. At the bottom of the Service tab, there should be a status code.
  5. Any code other than Code 0 (Ready) will indicate a problem.  Check if any non-0 error codes are shown.

Ink errors

  1. If the status says ink pen failure, the ink cartridge is the problem.
  2. Remove the new cartridges and reinstall the old black cartridge even though it might be out of ink.
  3. If the SpotDot starts and embosses OK you will know the new cartridge was defective or incompatible.
