ZoomText – Crash after clicking black down arrows in ZT main window

Problem

When clicking the down arrows in ZoomText 2023.2212.21 to reveal items in the sub menu for ZoomText function the ZoomText window will quit and restart ZoomText.


Resolution

  • This is a known problem 07/02/2023 disclosed by Freedom Scientific. This problem is attibuted to Microsoft but development are instigating their own efforts to fix the problem. No time frame for release has been given.
  • In light of the above, a workaround is to prevent display of tool tips within the ZoomText interface (see bwlow):
  1. Press CONTROL+CAPSLOCK+U to or click the ZoomText icon in the taskbar to open the window.
  2. Then click ZoomText menu and select Preferences > User interface.
  3. In the dialogue uncheck the box “show ToolTips in the ZT UI” checkbox item.
  4. Click OK button to close the dialogue.
  5. Then click ZoomText menu > Configuration > Save as default.
  6. Then click Yes button for the overwrite prompt.
