Attach file button in Outlook web mail does not work

Problem

When a customer uses Microsoft Outlook webmail interface on Mac they are unable to attach a file they have selected. After clicking the Attach file button and choosing “Browse computer” no file picker opens to attach a file appears.

Applies to

• University or college sites using Microsoft 365 webmail

Resolution

  1. Open Finder and choose Applications > Utlities.
  2. In the Utilities sub folder open Disk Utility.
  3. In Disk Utility click First Aid. During this time the normal operation of the machine will be blocked. Click OK button when the operation is finished.
  4. Then restart the Mac.

Other items to consider

• Check Chrome is up to date by going to the application menu eg. Chrome and then choose About Chrome. For Safari use the Check for updates in the operating system.
• If updating the browser or Mac OS does not help carry out a Disk Utility First Aid using the steps below:
