HP Deskjet - Obtaining MAC address from 2700 and 4100 series printers

Problem

A customer may need to obtain the MAC address of an HP Deskjet 2700 or 4100 series inkjet all in one printer to allow it access to public Wi-Fi used in student halls.

Applies to

1. HP Deskjet 2700 series AIO printers
   
2. HP Deskjet 4100 series AIO printers

Resolution

Without a registered MAC address a printer is not able to negotiate student public Wi-Fi of the type frequently used in halls of residence.  However, if a MAC address is added to the student account with the Wi-Fi provider this in many cases will allow the printer to log onto the network and be available as a Wi-Fi printer.  In cases where pre-registration of MAC address is not possible or does not work the customer will need to use a USB between their computer and the printer.  DSA students affected in this way should contact Sight & Sound Technical Support for assistance.

1. If the printer is off please turn it on and wait for it to initialize.
2. Load paper into the paper tray.
3. Then Press and immediately release both the Wireless and Information ( i ) buttons together.
   
4. The printer should then respond with a printout containing the MAC address of along with other printer details. 
   

 Customers should then make a copy of the MAC address, log into their account and add the printer MAC address.

Note

If only the WPS pin number is printed then the buttons have depressed for 3 or more seconds.  Please try again and press and release both buttons quickly.
