Microsoft – Connect a Windows PC or laptop to a wireless network using the keyboard

A user has received a new PC/laptop and need to connect to a wireless network (also known as WiFi).

Resolution
This article will be of particular interest to those who find themselves needing to connect their computer to a wireless network prior to install of their AT software product. Before proceeding please gather the WiFi network name and pass key from the wireless router/station then work through the steps below to make the connection.
Starting Narrator
Where no other scren reader is installed you can use narrator provided the computer system is equipped with a loudspeaker or is connected to a speaker system already using a wired connection.
- Press CONTROL+WINDOWS+ENTER keys together as a chord, after a short time Narrator speech should start.
- Then mnimize the Narrator window by pressing TAB to reach Minimize button then press SPACEBAR.
- Press Windows key to open Start menu.
- Then type to search View Network Connections, then use UP/DOWN ARROW KEYS to highlight the matching result then press ENTER on it.
- In the View Network Connections window press RIGHT ARROW until you reach WiFi, press ENTER.
- In the list of networks use UP/DOWN arrow keys to hightlight the network to connect with then press ENTER.
- Press TAB to the Connect Automatically checkbox and press SPACEBAR.
- Then press TAB to highlght the Connect button then press SPACEBAR.
- When connecting for the first time you will be prompted for the network pass key, carefully enter each letter including numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters that make up the pass key then press ENTER. Windows will then connect to the network automatically each time the computer starts.
Method 2 – via taskbar status icon
- Press Windows key, then press ESCAPE to focus the Windows Start button.
- Then press TAB until you reach Show Hidden Items.
- Then press right arrow until you reach the button Network No Internet
- Access, then press SPACEBAR to access the connections list.
- Then press TAB to reach Manage Wifi Networks and press SPACEBAR on it.
- In the list of networks use UP/DOWN arrow keys to find the intended network to connect to then press ENTER.
- Then press TAB to the Connect Automatically checkbox then press SPACEBAR.
- Then press TAB to the Connect button then press SPACEBAR.
- At the edit prompt enter the network key of the router you wish to connect to, then press ENTER.
