Microsoft – Locating 25 digit product key

Problem

A customer who has purchased a Microsoft Office needs to locate their 25 digit product key.

Resolution

Please review the two methods shown below for obtaining the Microsoft Office product key.

 

Method 1 – From a Microsoft account

In most cases the 25 digit key will not be required now that most Microsoft Office 365 packages require sign in with email address.  However, if you need to locate the product key, then use the steps below.

 

  1. Go to the Microsoft account website and sign in with the email address and password associated with your Microsoft account.
  2. Once you are signed in, click on the "Services & subscriptions" tab.
  3. Locate the Microsoft Office product that you want to retrieve the license key for and click on "View product key".
  4. Your license key will be displayed on the screen. Make sure to copy it down or take a screenshot of it for future reference.

Method 2 – From original install media

If the software came as a CD there may be a product key in print on the back of the CD sleeve.
