JAWS - Install on Remote Computer for access via RDP/CITRIX
Problem
An IT Technician is tasked with installing JAWS onto a Remote computer for access via RDP/CITRIX.
Applies to
- JAWS
Resolution
Please review the information below to install JAWS on a Remote computer for access via RDP/CITRIX.
JAWS downloads
- Current Version - Online installers
- Previous Version - Online installers
- Offline installers for secure environments
Note
Customers in restricted IT environments are advised to use offline installers for best results during installation.
Refer to the download links and obtain the required download for your license.
Then ensure you have administrator rights to install software and run the installer downloaded earlier.
When UAC prompts please authenticate using your credentials to confirm the installation.
At
completion you are invited to restart the system, please do so when practical. It is not necessary to add a license to the server copy of JAWS as this is queried from the client computer when the end user connects from their machine.
Testing Remote Access
To correctly test remote access please log onto the client computer and then run a connection to the remote computer and start JAWS on the remote instance of Windows. If all is well the two copies will connect with one another and the remote copy of will receive authorisation from the client machine license. If you are informed that you do not have authorisation for Remote Access this may indicate either that you do not have a license for Remote Access on the client machine or a communication problem is preventing the license from being detected on the client computer.
Action on client computer
Before Remote Access cam be properly tested some work may be required on the client machine to make it work with Remote Access.
If installing for the first time on the client proceed by downloading the same offline installer as mentioned earlier.
Run the installation package whilst logged in a administrator and complete the install following the prompts.
If the license has Remote Access, this should be installed on the client computer only (no install on Reove computer required).
Testing Remote Access
- To test JAWS Remote Access on from the client machine make sure JAWS is running.
- Open up the connection to the Remote computer.
- Once signed in run JAWS on the desktop, this should start without error and speech should be heard.
- If the end user has a Braille Display it may be necessary to have them confirm that Braille output is displaying normally.
